 Professional Experience

Mount Calm Independent School District, Mount Calm, Texas

January 2004 to Present

Teacher/Technologist

Accomplishments:

Teaching
1. Followed state TEKS in establishing a middle school technology curriculum. Previously, the district only taught keyboarding. Microsoft Office, digital photography & morphing, web mastering, podcasting, blogging, desktop publishing w/ Adobe InDesign (8th grade publishes the school newsletter “The Connection”), Web Quests (i.e., Westward Ho with Lenni Dolan), ePals, online research, CAD/CAM, and computer maintenance and repair have been added.
2. Designed and administered, according to the Center for Learning and Development's established guidelines, the Grand Central Station lab for children failing one or more classes, and reduced the failure rate from 23% to 0 the first year and 29% to 2% for the 2007- 2008 school year.
3. Setup and implemented a Go Center/Career Cruising middle school career development program.
4. Developed the curriculum and taught evening and Saturday classes for Operating Systems, computer maintenance, understanding specifications and upgrades, word processing, spreadsheets, data bases, desktop publishing, digital photography, digital movie production, and PC video conferencing to the Mount Calm community.
Technology
5. Upgraded the Primary Domain Controller/DHCP/DNS and Library servers from obsolete Gateway Microsoft NT-4 servers to Microsoft 2003 IBM X-Series eServers; configured and migrated services and software applications (i.e. Athena). Added three dedicated enterprise Application eServers for RiverDeep LMS 3 and 4, Read 180, and Renaissance Place. Replaced outdated Windows 98 classroom computers with Windows XP and insured each classroom had at least five workstations.
6. Installed reduced cost, maintenance free, N-Computing smart terminals, instead of far more expensive computers, in the fourth and fifth grade math and language arts labs, middle school math and science lab, and Special Education Resource classroom, exponentially increasing the school's R.O.I.
7. Volunteered technical assistance and labor to the Mount Calm public library.
8. Repaired defective computers and electronic equipment/systems (networks) for the school, thus saving the district thousands in outsourcing. Since 68% of the district’s student population is at, or below, the poverty level, the outdated Windows 95 and 98 computers were repaired and formatted, then given to the children who did not have computers at home.
9. Designed and maintained a similar Office Live basic website
www.mountcalmisd.org that is totally free for the district.
10. Setup Flash News emergency notification system.
